Free Boutique Helps ATV Clients Make Fresh Start

Many survivors fleeing from violence arrive at our doorstep with just a bag and the clothes on their back. Fleeing an abusive situation often leaves victims without any money or any sort of financial ability to buy basic essentials because their abuser controlled the household finances.

Thanks to an abundant amount of clothing donations and hours of work from volunteers, we have “opened” Renew Boutique. Located in the basement of the Alternatives to Violence (ATV) SafeHouse, each residential client has access to all the merchandise offered in the boutique free of charge. Volunteers and donors helped make the space look like an actual retail boutique by adding new lighting, painting and organizing racks of clothing and shelves. Besides apparel, the boutique offers shoes, bags, jewelry, toys and baby essentials, like diapers.

ATV is here to support our clients’ personal and professional goals. The boutique’s ultimate mission is to provide clients with basic needs while they are residing in the shelter, plus give them some essential items for when they are ready to leave, like clothes for a job interview. The boutique atmosphere gives clients a sense of normalcy while they’re choosing items. The “new” items make clients feel good, boosting their confidence and sense of independence. This boutique also allows clients to focus on their healing journey without the stress of worrying how they will purchase some of their most basic needs.
