Every minute, 20 people in the United States experience physical violence, sexual assault or stalking by an intimate partner. That’s over 10 million people a year. For survivors of domestic violence, the path to safety and healing often begins with Alternatives to Violence (ATV). We are a place for change, providing safety, advocacy, compassion and a future filled with hope. Your support doesn’t just help—it transforms lives.
ATV Provides Safety to Survivors
Alternatives to Violence offers emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis intervention, and legal advocacy for those escaping violence. In 2024 alone, we provided 4,613 safe nights in our shelter and answered over 2,500 crisis calls. Each bed occupied and each phone call answered represents a life moving one step closer to healing.
Healing Takes Time and Resources
Beyond crisis support, we offer housing referrals, case management, and support groups. These services help survivors rebuild self-worth and rediscover their voice. One survivor shared: “For the first time in years, I felt like someone saw me—not just my trauma.”
Prevention Starts with Education
Our community education programs are key in preventing violence. We work with schools, faith-based organizations, local businesses and more to help them recognize red flags, know how to respond to someone who might need help, and become advocates for change. We educate the public to understand that abuse takes many forms and every form is serious. That includes emotional, financial, physical and psychological.
Be the Reason Someone Finds Safety
Every donation (big or small!) supports safety, healing, and prevention. When you give to Alternatives to Violence, you give someone their first night of peace, their first step toward healing, and their first glimpse of a future free from fear and violence.
